Unlock Form Editing - Free Online Browser Tool
Clear the read-only and no-edit flags on a form so its fields can be filled in again.
Forms sometimes arrive with editing disabled even from people entitled to complete them, usually because the sender protected the template rather than the completed copy. This clears those flags so the fields become fillable again.
This unlock form editing utility runs completely inside your web browser. Your document is opened locally and processed on your own device using JavaScript and WebAssembly, so your file is never uploaded to any server. There is no signup, no watermark and no limit on how many documents you can handle.

- Instant processing, no upload wait
- Works on desktop, tablet and mobile

How to Use the Unlock Form Editing Tool
Four steps, and the whole thing runs locally on your own device.
-
Load the form
It must be a fillable PDF with an AcroForm, not a scanned image of one.
-
Choose what to clear
Per-field read-only flags, the form-level flag, or both. Forcing appearance rebuilds fixes fields that display blank.
-
Process
Only the flags are touched. No field values are altered.
-
Download and try filling it
If values appear blank, re-run with appearance regeneration enabled and reopen.
Frequently Asked Questions
Will this decrypt a password-protected file?
No, and it deliberately does not. If a document is encrypted or needs an open password, that is a different problem and belongs to whoever holds the password.
What if nothing was locked?
You are told so rather than receiving an unchanged copy, which usually means you loaded a different file than you meant to.
Why would a field show blank when I open it?
The viewer caches the appearance that was stored. Regenerating appearances forces it to redraw from the field value, which fixes it.
Does this change who is allowed to fill it?
It removes an editing restriction. It does not add an open password, and it does not make a document confidential — those are separate things.
Is this legitimate to do on someone else’s form?
On a form you are entitled to complete, yes. It clears an editing restriction, not encryption. Do not use it on a document you have no right to modify.
