Metadata Tools
Document properties are the quietest thing on a PDF and the one most likely to leak. They record who made a file, when, with what tool, and sometimes where. These tools let you look, correct, set or remove them.
- Read and rewrite the title, author, subject and keywords
- Set a creation date deliberately, or strip the whole metadata block
- Anonymise a document and view the raw XMP underneath the friendly fields

Metadata FAQ
Why does my PDF show an author name I have never heard of?
That field is often written by whatever produced the file rather than by the person who typed it. A scanner or a converter will stamp its own vendor name and sometimes the machine it ran on, which is why files you did not create can carry a stranger’s name.
Does removing metadata make a document anonymous?
It removes the identifying properties, which handles the most common leak. It is not a redaction: the content itself can still identify whoever is in it, and a genuinely anonymised document needs its identifying content dealt with too.
Can I set a creation date that is not today?
Yes, the creation date can be set explicitly. Note that this only changes the recorded property; a modification timestamp may still exist separately depending on how the file was produced.
