Annotations Tools
Markup is the fastest way to review a document with someone. Highlight what matters, underline a clause, draw an arrow at the problem, then flatten or strip the markup once the conversation is over.
- Highlight, underline and strike through, each with a colour you choose
- Freehand drawing and shape boxes, for anything markup text cannot express
- Remove every annotation in one step, or flatten them into the page content

Annotations FAQ
What is the difference between removing annotations and flattening them?
Removing strips the markup and leaves the page exactly as it was, with the text underneath untouched. Flattening draws the markup permanently into the page content and removes the interactive layer, which is what you want before sending a document to someone who should not be able to undo your comments.
Can I highlight text in a scanned document?
Not by selecting it, because a scan has no text layer to select. You would need to run OCR first to make the page text-based, and then highlighting works normally. Until then, use a shape box over the region.
Do my annotations show up when someone else opens the file?
Yes, they are stored as standard PDF annotations, so they appear in any reader that supports them. Note that they remain editable until you flatten, so treat an unflattened document as still under discussion.
