PDF Editor Tools

Every tool on this site works on one job at a time, which is right for a tool and wrong for a document that needs four small changes. The editor loads your PDF once and keeps it open, so you make the changes in sequence and save one file at the end rather than uploading and downloading your way around the site.

  • Pages, text, markup, forms and document details from one panel, no re-uploading between steps
  • Every operation is the same tool that already exists here, applied to the document you have open
  • Undo steps back one change at a time, and Back to the original rewinds the whole session

PDF Editor FAQ

Can the editor change words that are already in the PDF?

No. Doing that properly means re-flowing the line and the paragraph around the word, which needs the document own font metrics and content streams - that is desktop publishing software, not a browser. What Replace Text does here is cover the old words with a white box and type the new ones on top, which is correct on the page and in print while the original words stay in the file. Fine for a date or a name, wrong for removing something confidential.

Why does it use the other tools rather than having its own editing code?

Because a second implementation is a second thing to keep correct. Each operation resolves the tool that already exists and calls it against the document in front of you, so the editor cannot quietly fall behind the tool own page. If the two ever behaved differently, that would be a bug - and it would show up as a difference rather than hiding.

What happens to my changes if I close the tab?

They are lost, because they are held in memory in this tab rather than written to disk. Download before you reload or close. The panel says so under the buttons, since finding that out after a reorganisation would be an unpleasant surprise.

Why can I not split the document from inside the editor?

Splitting produces a different set of files rather than an edited version of the one you have open, so there is nothing sensible to carry forward. The editor points you to Split PDF on its own page for those, rather than accepting the operation and then failing on what comes next.
