Inspect & List Form Fields - Free Online Browser Tool

Extract field names, types, and values from form PDFs.

Before automating or testing a form, you need to know what is actually inside it. This tool enumerates every field in a PDF — its internal name, its type, its current value and whether it is required — which is the fastest way to understand a form you did not create.

This inspect & list form fields utility runs completely inside your web browser. Your document is opened locally and processed on your own device using JavaScript and WebAssembly, so your file is never uploaded to any server. There is no signup, no watermark and no limit on how many documents you can handle.

  • 100% client-side - files never leave your device
  • Instant processing, no upload wait
  • Works on desktop, tablet and mobile
  • Free forever, no account required

Common next steps: Export Form Data (JSON), Fill PDF Form Fields, Rename Form Fields.

How to Use the Inspect & List Form Fields Tool

Four steps, and the whole thing runs locally on your own device.

  1. Load the form PDF

Drop in the document with interactive fields.

  2. Read the field inventory

Every field is listed with its name, type — text field, checkbox, radio, dropdown — and current value.

  3. Check required and default states

Required flags and default values are reported, so you know what must be filled before submission.

  4. Download the report

Export the inventory as JSON or view it in the browser to feed into your own automation.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why do field names look like cryptic codes?

Because they come from the PDF’s internal field identifiers, which are set by whoever built the form and often have no relationship to the visible label.

Can I use this output to fill the form programmatically?

Yes — export the inventory as JSON and use the field names as the keys for your automation. That is exactly what this tool is for.

What if the PDF shows no fields at all?

Either the form has been flattened already, or it is a printed facsimile with no interactive objects. Add TextField / Checkbox to make it interactive.

Does this read values from fields that are already filled?

Yes. Current values are reported alongside each field, so you can see exactly what the form already contains.

Is a flat or XFA form handled?

Standard AcroForm fields are fully supported. XFA forms, which are a separate dynamic format, are not read by this tool.
