PDF to Word (DOCX) - Free Online Browser Tool
Turn a PDF into an editable Word document with headings, lists and tables intact.
A PDF records where ink sits on a page, not what it means. There are no paragraphs, no heading levels and no tables — only glyphs at coordinates. Turning one back into a document you can edit means reading that ink back and rebuilding the structure by hand. This tool does that reconstruction: it works out the reading order (which is what stops a two-column page from interleaving itself into nonsense), recognises headings by their size, detects bulleted and numbered lists, and reconstructs tables from text that lines up in columns. It then writes a genuine .docx package in your browser — the same ZIP-of-XML format Word itself uses. Nothing is uploaded, and no third-party conversion service ever sees your document. Be realistic about the result: the text, the structure and the tables come across faithfully. Exact fonts and column geometry do not, because recovering those means rebuilding a layout engine. The output is meant to be edited, not to be a pixel-perfect copy.

How to Use the PDF to Word (DOCX) Tool
Four steps, and the whole thing runs locally on your own device.
-
Load the PDF
If it turns out to be a scan with no text layer, this tool will say so and point you at OCR instead of handing you an empty document.
-
Choose what to keep
Structure preserves headings, lists and tables. Plain text is faster and cleaner when you only want the words.
-
Optionally limit the pages
Enter a range like 1-5 to convert part of a long document, and leave the field blank for all of it.
-
Download the .docx
A real Word document opens in Word, Pages, LibreOffice and Google Docs, and stays fully editable.
Frequently Asked Questions
Will the Word document look exactly like the PDF?
No, and no honest converter can promise that. Text, headings, lists and tables are rebuilt faithfully. Exact fonts, column breaks and floating images are not — recovering those means rebuilding a layout engine. Read the document once after converting if its appearance matters.
Why did my two-column page come out in the wrong order?
It should not: the reading order is worked out geometrically, by sorting text into rows and detecting the gutter between columns, so the left column is read top to bottom before the right one. If a page uses an unusual layout — a sidebar running down the middle, for instance — no heuristic is perfect, and that is worth checking.
My PDF is a scan. What happens?
A scan has no text layer to read, so the tool tells you plainly and points you at OCR PDF. Convert with OCR first, then run this on the result.
Is the file really editable in Word?
Yes. It is a real .docx package — the same ZIP-of-XML structure Word uses — built from scratch in your browser. Styles, heading levels, list numbering and table borders are all defined, so Word does not open it as unformatted text.
Is my document uploaded anywhere?
No. The text is read, the structure is rebuilt and the .docx is assembled entirely in this tab. No conversion service is involved at any point.
