Document Statistics - Free Online Browser Tool

One report covering page count, page sizes, fonts, images and form fields.

Before sending a document on, it is worth knowing what is actually inside it. A file can mix page sizes, carry a font that will not be on the printer, or turn out to be mostly scanned images. This produces one report covering all of it.

This document statistics utility runs completely inside your web browser. Your document is opened locally and processed on your own device using JavaScript and WebAssembly, so your file is never uploaded to any server. There is no signup, no watermark and no limit on how many documents you can handle.

  • 100% client-side - files never leave your device
  • Instant processing, no upload wait
  • Works on desktop, tablet and mobile
  • Free forever, no account required

How to Use the Document Statistics Tool

Four steps, and the whole thing runs locally on your own device.

  1. Load the document

The report covers the file structure, not just what is visible.

  2. Choose the detail level

Summary only, or a line for every page with its size, rotation, character count and images.

  3. Choose text or JSON

Text is for reading; JSON is for feeding a check into an automated pipeline.

  4. Download

Mixed page sizes and a high proportion of pages with no text are both called out.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why do mixed page sizes matter?

Because a document that prints inconsistently almost always has them. Each page is drawn at its own size, so a spreadsheet or a figure that should align across a spread quietly does not.

What does "pages with no text" tell me?

That those pages are images. On a document you thought was digital, a high count means scanning is involved, which changes everything about whether it can be searched or edited.

Is the font list a problem in itself?

Not unless the fonts are unusual. A long tail of one-off fonts usually means the file was assembled from several sources, and each carries its own subset.

Does reading the report change the file?

No. Nothing is modified; this is inspection only.

How long does it take on a long scan?

It reads every page, so it takes as long as rendering does. On a hundred page scan that is most of a minute, which is why the summary-only option exists for a quick check.
