XPS to PDF - Free Online Browser Tool
Convert XML Paper Specification (XPS/OXPS) documents into PDF documents.
XPS is the print-to-file format Windows offers, and plenty of machines have no way to open one. This reads the words out of the package and sets them into a document any reader can open.
This xps to pdf utility runs completely inside your web browser. Your document is opened locally and processed on your own device using JavaScript and WebAssembly, so your file is never uploaded to any server. There is no signup, no watermark and no limit on how many documents you can handle.
- 100% client-side - files never leave your device
- Instant processing, no upload wait
- Works on desktop, tablet and mobile
- Free forever, no account required
Common next steps: Word to PDF, Plain Text to PDF.
How to Use the XPS to PDF Tool
Four steps, and the whole thing runs locally on your own device.
-
Add the XPS file
Choose an .xps or .oxps document; both are ZIP packages of page parts.
-
Read the glyph runs
XPS keeps its words in attribute values rather than in text nodes, so those attributes are read before the markup is stripped.
-
Label each page
Every page part becomes a section headed by its page number, in the order the package stores them.
-
Save the PDF
The extracted text is typeset, numbered and written on your own machine.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does the page layout survive the conversion?
No. The words and their order are preserved, but the PDF is re-typeset, so the position of text on the original page is not reproduced.
Is vector artwork carried over?
No, only text is read, so drawings, paths and shaded shapes in the document do not appear in the result at all.
What is the difference between XPS and OXPS?
OXPS is the open specification of the same format, and its packages hold the same page parts, so both are read here.
Which Windows versions can create an XPS file?
The Microsoft XPS Document Writer has shipped with Windows for many releases, and it is what produces most of the files this tool sees.
Is the conversion done on a server?
No. The package is opened in the tab, so a document such as a bank statement never travels over the network.
